How not to fit a new consumer unit! We were called to this property in #WestMalling as the owner said the lights were flickering. Upon inspection we found this disgraceful work. All screws had been done up using an impact driver resulting in damage to the original RCD and three breakers. Rather than fixing it properly they decided to fit a non standard RCD badly. A small but potentially life saving job this morning for a social housing client in #London. Upgrading an out of date Carbon Monoxide alarm (Yes that have replace by dates). This device is a lithium powered battery unit, we only use #Aico units which are guaranteed for 10 years!

Another LED fitting upgrade for an estate management client in #Kent. The old fitting was damaged and hadn't worked for some time causing access issues for disabled residents. The new unit is brighter enabling residents to see where they are going and uses less energy

This photo captured out on site shows how not to install FP200. This particular circuit formed part of a fire alarm system for a newly developed residential block that had been reported to have issues with the fire alarm system commissioning. Issues reported for resolution

Repairs carried out to this carpark lamp column in #Kent. Our estate management client had numerous complaints that this fitting had been out of service for some time. We had it repaired and fully functional in one visit #ElectriServeLtd

A repeat customer of ours decided they needed more dry storage for the coming winter and installed 4 x container units. Once insulated we fitted new lighting and bar heaters to keep the chill off and give good visibility of the stored items as the nights draw in

After visiting a long standing customer they noted that the front of their gated entrance was very dark. We installed Up/Down fittings with LED lamps and controlled them via miniature photocells so that the area is always lit when light levels drop, perfect for the coming winter

We don't quite know how this fitting ended up in this state but it was still in service when we checked it. After making it safe we advised our clients of the condition and the need for a suitable replacement.

A recent local authority job came in to upgrade this old lantern style fitting with an LED flood light as the old unit was no longer working correctly and the front area of the property was very dark. We attended with the new unit and 10minutes later the resident had light again

Emergency lighting installation to one of our clients units including a small production area and blast freezer at a cool -14 degrees Celsius. Issues with lighting going off leaving workers in the dark are now in the past with clearly lit escape routes if they ever need them.

One of our long standing management clients called to say that a resident had no power and anther contractor could not find the cause. After a very short time on site we found this faulty meter, made the system safe and arranged for a new meter unit to be fitted by the supplier

A customer called to say that their commercial spray booth was in complete darkness and the fault had stopped all work in their repair shop. We attended on an emergency callout to find that a motor in a loft space had been connected to the lighting circuit and had overheated, melting the plastic cover into the motor windings. A long term customer called to say they had an issue with a CCTV system in their commercial property. We attended to check the system over and find the issue. It turned out a mouse had got itself trapped in the back of a unit causing damage to the internals. We recently received a call from a #HousingAssociation to report that they had an issue with a main entrance door not being able to be opened by their residents. We attended site to find that the original lock was installed in 1998 and was still in operation but was now faulty! A fault developed on this high-rise system meaning the whole staircase was in complete darkness. We attended within an hour of receiving the call from our client and found that a fitting had burnt out due to it being on 24/7 with no maintenance schedules. High level works can sometimes be a costly exercise requiring MEWP's (Mobile Elevating Work Platforms). We use our own 8metre MiTower and it's perfect for jobs such as servicing this flood lighting where the floor is on different levels restricting access for units like MEWPS

Carbon Monoxide or "Co" alarms play a vital role in keeping our customers safe. We regularly supply and fit battery only, Mains or multi sensors incorporating Co detection. If you have a gas or solid fuel burning appliance do you have a working Co alarm?

It seems that more and more of our customers are unaware that their smoke alarms have a replace by date. We only fit Aico units being a market leader and having trained on their Expert Installer courses. Have you checked the dates on your alarms?

We recently replaced two panel heaters as the old units hadn't worked for some years. We ran through the setup and settings with the current resident and they were over the moon that they had working units again.

This is how not to replace blown fuse wire or a blown fuse. Copper should never be used in place of the correct fuse wire and foil should never be used in place of the correct fuse. This can cause cabling to melt under fault condition and is most definitely a fire hazard.

We recently came across this damaged cabling on an out of ours callout. The damage to the cabling is from the heat generated by electrical arcing due to a loose connection. We were able to strip the cable back and replace the spur for our customer to get them up and running again

A repeat customer asked us to take a look at some perimeter flood lighting to their business premises as it had recently stopped working. We quickly found multiple points of damage to the circuits cabling. Once replaced, the lighting was up and running keeping them operational

A call came in from a well known London pub as they'd had a water leak which effected some of their lighting. We'd been out previously to make safe a light fitting in another part of their cellar and they requested that we upgrade the kitchen lighting to LED.

It's not just sockets that can suffer from heat damage, this light fitting has been extensively damaged due to the heat generated by arcing from a faulty component, and has had to be disconnected for safety reasons pending a replacement.

A stark reminder of the dangers of temporary heaters. This floor socket had signs of heat damage due to a heater being left on continuously. This particular unit was also in a primary school. We checked the wiring, replaced the socket and made the staff aware of the dangers.

A few communal light fittings that have been upgraded to LED for one of our estate management customers. The previous fittings had fallen into a bad state of repair with minimal to no light output. The new fittings are bright and most importantly are energy efficient.

How not to do bathroom lighting! A recent electrical test (EICR) flagged up the poor condition of these downlights. The homeowner asked us to upgrade the fittings to LED and it completely changed the look of the bathroom as well as making it electrically safe.

Gabriella needed a smoke alarm upgrade to be able to rent out her flat as her old ones were out of date. We supplied and fitted replacement @Aico units and set her up with all the information needed for her new alarms. Remember to always check your smoke alarms regularly!!

After receiving an email from @emshealthcare we headed over to take a look at a 3phase instant water heater. The NHS staff in the unit had reported having no hot water to wash their hands. We found the fault and had a replacement sourced and fitted within a couple of days.

We recently received a call from a customer who had another electrician fit their very expensive hand blown glass light fittings from Italy. They unfortunately damaged one leaving our customer to replace it. We fitted them without any damage and we think they look amazing!!

A call came in recently with a loss of power to our customers cooker. We did some initial fault finding and found that the cabling in the back of the cooker switch had burnt out. We quickly found a replacement and our customer was back up and running in no time at all!

Tip 4 - Always be sure to keep electrical appliances away from any water source. Water is an excellent conductor of electricity .... water and electricity do not mix! #EFSW

Tip 3 - Unplug any unused appliances. Even when not in use, when continuously plugged in appliances generate a small amount of energy so its good practice to unplug them when not in use. This is not to say unplug your kettle between every use, but if you have a television in a spare room that isn't used for months, unplug it. #EFSW

Tip 2 - Always check for damaged or worn cables. Ensure to keep them tidy to avoid damage and with plenty of airflow to avoid overheating. #EFSW

Tip 1 - Don’t overload sockets! Most people have extension leads within their home but 4 spaces does not mean it is always safe to plug in 4 or more appliances. Check the current rating of the extension lead before plugging appliances into it. Never plug in appliances that together will overload the current rating of the extension lead. This could potentially cause the wall socket to overheat and cause a fire #EFSW
